Good News --- We have a terrific new slate!
As reported earlier, an exhaustive search in February
and March for a new slate by our very able Nominating Committee did not
bring conclusive results. Marian Watson, Nordie Crews and Anna Eidson did
their utmost to find enough ladies to serve for the coming year.
The risk of dissolution of our beloved society
was a real possibility as we attended the Board Meeting in March.
The next day, Beverly Smeltzer called me to ask for permission to extend
the search for a new slate for the ROWS Board of Directors. Due to
circumstances, I authorized the extension., Kay Palko, two-time president,
came to the rescue and agreed to serve another term . Other members
of the new board, Pat Rathbun, Beverly Smeltzer, Mary Hawker, Anne Kraine
and Yvonne Ringhausen have served for many years as well. We are
very grateful to all of the new Board Members who are wiling to keep ROWS
alive and active. Congratulations and best wishes for a successful
year to all.
Our April Luncheon was filled with other exciting
moments as well. Not only did we unanimously nominate and elect the
new board, but we also heard a highly interesting presentation by Docent
Al Mitchell, covering the history of the Monitor and providing a description
of the new Monitor Museum in Newport News.
As always, the staff at Atlantic Shores served
a super meal, and lovely spring flowers decorated the tables. It
was fun to be there.
We look forward to seeing you at our next
luncheon on May 10, 2007, at the Princess Anne Country Club at which time
we will have the installation of our new officers and the presentation
of our ROWS donation to Vetshouse, inc. Please see Betty Steere’s
comments in this issue.
As this is my last column for the ROWS Newsletter,
I woud like to thank all of our splendid board members who have been serving
so caringly and adeptly. It is because of you that we have had a
successful and enjoyable year. Also, a heartfelt thank you to all
the wonderful members of our Retired Officers Wives Society, for your support
and fellowship. It is an honor to be associated with all of you.
Very best wishes,
Lillian Campbell
